About Bagus engros About Bagus engros
Bagus engros is located in Copenhagen, Denmark. We import tiles, lifestyle and interior products from Indonesia and Thailand.

Bagus started as a retail shop in 1997 in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. The retail shop is now located in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen. In 2003 we started Bagus engros with wholesale to dealers in mainly Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany.

Bagus engros started with a collection of baskets and other traditional hand made handicrafts from Indonesia. A bestseller has been 'Bali Boxes', most adapted in colours and motives to Scandinavian style. Soon came another bestseller, mosaic tiles, made of natural stone.

Today, we still keep a collection of hand made handicraft from Indonesia. However, since 2008 our focus turned to distributing young interior design brands with international ambitions, but so far unknown in Northern Europe. We wanted to look far away from traditional design countries in the so called developed world of the West and countries like Japan or South Korea.

In Bangkok, Thailand, we found an exciting bourgeoning interior design culture. So in February 2008 we started up with distributing 3 Bangkok brands: Qualy, Goodjob and Dogo.

CSR At Bagus we are committed to being a socially and ethically responsible company. We work closely together with suppliers to enable them to understand and comply with our set of minimum standards for social and environmental performance. We believe that showing social and environmental responsibility is advantageous for both Bagus and the suppliers.

Our aim is to build long term relationships with our suppliers. We intend to be partners with our suppliers, and are willing to assist our suppliers in their efforts to improve compliance with our code of conduct.

Since the start of Bagus in 1997 we have been conscious about social and ethical responsibility. We started by using common sense and our own eyes and we always visited a production site of each supplier. Later in 2004 we developed supplier contracts and demands to live up to international standards combined with our usual personal visits.

Since 2006 we have been part of the PPP program with Danida and Håndværksrådet. With the purpose of improving our 'Supply Chain Management Policy and System' they have supplied us with professional consultancy. This has resulted in a much more structured policy. Our demands are now much more specific and we ask for more documentation from the suppliers. We work more closely with the suppliers and offer them more coaching. We want them to understand why CSR is important and we want the suppliers to exploit this work to improve their business in general.

As of September 2008 we have started implementing the new policy with 3 suppliers in Thailand: Qualy, Goodjob and Dogo. Despite giving the suppliers a few headaches with our time consuming comprehensive program of questions and needs for documentation they have been very positive and interested in our CSR program. The 3 suppliers were chosen by us not only due to their professionalism and great design products. We had already discussed and checked basic CSR issues before starting the cooperation. Accordingly it has come as no surprise to us that these 3 companies on most issues far exceed our basic demands. In many ways they are close to Danish standards!! Still there are a few minor issues we would like to discuss with them.

In 2009 we will start implementation with the Indonesian suppliers we plan to continue with in the future.

However, this will not be the end. Working with social and ethical responsibility is an endless journey. New areas of concern may arise and some issues can be better documented and we plan to introduce independent control within a few years. Also, we keep paying attention to the opportunities of selling products made of recycled materials.

National Law and Internationally Recognised Standards We expect our suppliers to comply with national law and Bagus' code of conduct. The code of conduct is based on internationally recognised minimum standards for human rights, labour and the environment, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the core labour conventions of the International Labour Organisation, ILO, and the UN Declaration on Sustainable Development.

If you are interested in our Code of Conduct or if you would just like further information about our CSR policy you are welcome to contact us.
